Fire Fatality Reporting
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has collected statistics on fire fatalities since 1986. These statistics are analyzed at the end of each month to give the total number of fire deaths, death by county, cause of death, smoke alarm status, type of structure involved in the fire, and age of deceased. This has served us well in monitoring and evaluating the decrease in fire fatalities. In an effort to streamline information gathering and sharing, you can view monthly and yearly fire fatality statistics online. We are also in the process of creating an online fire fatality reporting system. Currently, you can download the paper version to be completed and faxed to 803-896-9806 to the attention of Wanda D. Johnson.
