License Renewal

How Do You Renew a License?

All cosmetology, esthetician, nail technician and instructor licenses expire on March 10 of each odd year. All salon, booth renters, and school licenses expire on June 30th of each even year. Also required is proof of the required continuing education hours and payment of the renewal fee prescribed by the Board. The policy of the Board for a registered cosmetologist, nail technician and esthetician is that a total of 12 hours of continuing education are completed; 6 of those hours can be completed through a Board approved online continuing education provider and the other 6 hours must be completed in a Board approved classroom setting.

Reinstatement

An individual whose license has been expired for almost three years may reinstate their license by filing the application, paying of the required reinstatement fee and presenting satisfactory proof of his or her qualifications to resume practicing. An individual whose license has been expired for three years or more must pay the required fee and retake both the written and practical exams to have their license reinstated.
