NOTICE: South Carolina Law states that after September 30, 2008 the Board of Examiners in Optometry can no longer renew licenses for doctors that have not completed the licensing requirements for a therapeutically-certified optometrist.

Board Purpose

The South Carolina Board of Examiners in Optometry regulates the practice of optometry in South Carolina. The Board's main concern is to protect South Carolina citizens and visitors when they receive optometric care. The Board issues licenses to qualified optometrists to practice in this State after meeting all application requirements. Licensees meet renewal requirements to maintain a license. Complaints are investigated and disciplinary action is taken if necessary.
