Physician Assistant Licenses Offered and Licensing Requirements
The following are the basic requirements for obtaining licensure to practice as a physician assistant. Applicants should consult the South Carolina Medical Practice Act to obtain the detailed requirements.
Permanent License
Requirements
- Pass the NCCPA Exam and document current NCCPA Certification
- Verification from AMA approved PA school
- Take and pass the Medical Practice Act exam
- Verification from all states in which a license is/was held
- Submit written practice guidelines to the Board
- Personal interview with a Board designee
PA licensure is site-specific. Each time the PA changes his or her practice setting, or changes supervising physicians, a new application must be submitted. All written practice guidelines must be reviewed.
Limited License
Requirements
- Verification from AMA approved PA school
- Pass the Medical Practice Act exam administered by this Board
- Proof of NCCPA eligibility
- Submit written practice guidelines to the Board
- Personal interview with a Board designee
- Take and pass the Medical Practice Act exam
Change of Supervisor or Adding an Additional Primary Supervisor
Requirements
- Submit written practice guidelines to the Board
- Personal interview with a Board designee
Application for Prescriptive Authority
Requirements
- Must possess a permanent physician assistant South Carolina license
