South Carolina Board of Dentistry Recovering Professional Program (RPP)

The Recovering Professional Program (RPP) is a confidential assessment, referral, and monitoring program designed for South Carolina licensed dentists, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists with alcohol and other drug abuse problems. The RPP has been developed for the participating boards in order to provide a consistent, accountable way of protecting the public from impaired practitioners and to provide a non-disciplinary way for each board’s licensees to access substance abuse treatment early, before possible injury to the licensee or others occurs. Therefore, the RPP’s mission is to protect the public through early identification of licensees who are in need of alcohol and other drug abuse treatment and, when practicable, return them to safe practice through appropriate referral, rehabilitation, recovery, and monitoring, as directed by each board. A $10 annual assessment to each dentist, and a $7 annual assessment to each dental hygienist and each dental technician, is required.
