Board Purpose

The mission of this Board is to regulate the practice of general and mechanical contracting, burglar and fire alarm system businesses and fire protection sprinkler contractors within South Carolina. The Board investigates complaints and disciplines contractors when necessary. General and Mechanical Contractors engage mainly in commercial construction. However, their license allows them to also engage in residential projects. The South Carolina Residential Builders Commission regulates residential homebuilders and registered specialty contractors that exclusively engage in residential construction.

The Contractors' Licensing Board currently operates with a staff of 12 employees, including a board administrator, and administers the license law to approximately 12,000 licensees.
