Building Codes Program

Program Purpose

The Building Codes Program was the first of four programs authorized by the legislature, to be administered by the Building Codes Council. The purpose of the program is to assure uniformity in the use, adoption and interpretation of building codes on a statewide basis. The program has been in existence since the inception of the Building Codes Council in 1984 and has been through several cycles of statutory and regulatory refinement. The current version of the Council's statute and regulations reflect those refinements and state the limits, duties and responsibilities under which it is allowed to function. The original purpose of building code uniformity has been preserved and strengthened by the Building Codes Council throughout the years and, today serves as the foundation on which the remaining programs are built.
