Frequently Asked Firm Renewal Questions

Q. When are firm renewals mailed?

A. Renewal forms are no longer mailed; a reminder notice to renew is mailed in mid-July.

Q. Can a firm renew online?

A. Yes. Architectural firms will be able to renew their license online at https://renewals.llronline.com beginning July 1st. 

Q. If I do not wish to renew online, can I renew by a paper renewal form?

A. If you absolutely cannot renew online, please go to the Board Web site at www.llr.state.sc.us/POL/Architects to download the 2009 Firm Renewal Application. We will not accept requests by phone, fax or e-mail.

Q. What is the licensure period for firms?

A. Licensure period is September 1 - August 31. Certificates of Authorization issued to firms expire biennially on August 31.

Q. Where do I mail the renewal?

A. Renewals can be mailed to Post Office Box 12517, Columbia, S.C. 29211-2517 or sent by UPS/Federal Express to 110 Centerview Drive, Kingstree Building, Columbia, S.C. 29210.

Q. Can I pay my renewal fee by credit card?

A. Yes, only by online renewal.

Q. Does the Board have an inactive status for Certificate of Authorizations?

A. The Board does not have a formal "inactive" classification. If you wish to place your Certificate of Authorization on a "lapsed status" contact the Board by e-mail at archelp@llr.sc.gov and indicate in the subject line, "do not wish to renew". Please include company name and license number when making this request.

Q. How do you reactivate a Certificate of Authorization that has expired?

A. Your Certificate may be renewed at any time during the remainder of the biennial renewal period on payment of the renewal fee plus late penalty of $50.00 during the first thirty days and an additional $100.00 thereafter during the first year. If you do not renew your registration within 24 months of the expiration date, it cannot be reissued except by a new application accompanied by our application fee ($100.00) and approval by the Board.

Q. Who do I make the check payable to?

A. Check should be made payable to "LLR -Architectural Board."

Q. How do I notify the Board of a company name change?

A. If you have a company name change (not a company structure change), please contact the Board by e-mail at archelp@llr.sc.gov and indicate in the subject line, "corporate name change" indicate the old company name and the new name. Note: If an out-of-state or in-state firm seeks to register under a name referring to persons rather than a trade name, the persons referred to in the firm's name must be or must have been licensed as architects, engineers, land surveyors, or landscape architects in this State or in another state or jurisdiction. If you are adding an individual name(s), please include a supplemental sheet indicating their full name, state of registration and type of license they currently hold.

Q. How do I notify the Board that the company has a structure change?

A. If you have a structure change, (i.e., company changes from a partnership to a corporation) you will need to file a new application with the Board. Please contact archelp@llr.sc.gov by e-mail and indicate "corporate structure change" in the subject line, and indicate the old company name and number and the new structure of the company and a registration packet for the new firm will be emailed to you.

Q. What are the current renewal fees for firm renewals?

A. Renewal fees for firms are as follows:

$200.00 if fee is received by August 31st

Late Penalties for Firm Renewals

If the renewal is postmarked September 1st  or after, total renewal fee is $250

Q. Does the Board waive late penalties?

A. No.
