S.C. law provides for the filling of prescriptions by licensed pharmacists during a time of emergency. According to the state Board of Pharmacy, a S.C. licensed pharmacist may dispense a one-time emergency refill of up to a 15-day supply of a prescribed non-controlled or controlled medication which is essential to the maintenance of life or the continuation of therapy. The pharmacist is required by law to notify the prescribing physician within 15 days of the emergency refill.
