Fire Marshal Shares Halloween Fire Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters

S.C. State Fire Marshal John Reich advises Halloween enthusiasts to be fire safe during the trick-or-treat festivities by paying attention to a few precautions:

  • Carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.

  • Purchase close-fitting costumes made from flame retardant materials.

  • Avoid billowing or long trailing costumes.

  • Use extreme caution with open flames. Candles should not be close to flammable materials. Consider using flashlights instead of candles in jack-o-lanterns, torchlights and other lighting decorations.
